If you've ever seen a stray nipple hair, you've undoubtedly felt a mix of feelings, including perplexity (uh, hello, what are you doing here?), disgust, and annoyance. In most situations, though, having hair around your nipples is entirely normal. Think of it this way: You have hair on your entire body, therefore your breasts should be no different.
Pretty Much Everyone has Some Level of Hair on their Breasts.
Nearly the entire human body is covered in hair and hair follicles. Some of the body hair may be incredibly fine and translucent. While some of it, such as leg hair, may thicken and darken as you get older. And then sometimes, long or coarse hairs pop up in places you didn’t expect, like your ears, chin, and even your nipples. We understand those are irritating !! But, for women, hairy nipples are typical. Those black, wiry hairs growing around the areolas can be surprising, but trust us you’re not alone. The number of women with hairy nipples is unknown. But why does it exist in the first place? Humans presumably acquired body hair for a variety of reasons, some of which scientists have yet to completely understand. Researchers believe that hair around your nipples is a remnant from a time when body hair was an important element of controlling your temperature. Since air conditioning, heaters, and fuzzy sweaters can now accomplish that, the hair around your nipples is no longer a problem.
Few Factors that Determine How Much Hair One Can Have are:
Hormonal abnormalities in certain women lead to the overproduction of male hormones like testosterone. Excess testosterone can cause hair to grow in unusual locations, such as the nipples.
In certain cases, it can be a sign of something more serious going on with you. Excessive hair growth can be related to PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome), which is caused by the imbalance of reproductive hormones.
Will it Change over Time?
The amount of hair on your breast might fluctuate throughout your life. When you reach puberty, for example, hair may appear for the first time on your breasts. However, as you get older, it's quite natural to just detect hair around your nipples. According to researchers, hormonal changes such as pregnancy or menopause can cause the hair surrounding the areolae to darken, making them more visible. Estrogen levels rise dramatically during pregnancy, for example. This aids in promoting and extending the anagen, or hair growth period. “It affects not just scalp hair but also body hair, including breast and areola hair”. So, if you're expecting, don't be worried if your breast hair becomes thicker or longer!
Bottom Line:
The hair surrounding your nipples is usually just a part of having breasts. Again, there’s no reason to feel weird about it, having hair around your nipples is completely natural and isn't anything you should be concerned about or think about removing if it doesn't affect you. However, if it bothers you or appears to be an indication of any health problem, talk to your doctor.
Repeat after us: Hairy nipples are completely normal !!
